For the best experience, many racers invest in quality gear. A standard setup usually includes:
- A Racing Wheel — This can be wither a DD (Direct Drive) or a Belt driven wheel. While DD is essential for the Ultimate experience Belt Driven Wheels are cheaper and offer a great way to dip you toes into Sim Racing.
- Pedals — At the very least you need a Brake and Accelerator Set. Many lower end products will sell you the wheel and pedals as a set while for a high end setup you will be sending the money on these individually. You can also add a clutch to this mix if you want to go stock car racing or rallying.
- A shifter and handbrake are only essential if you want to drift, do rallying or race a stock car which requires these.
- A racing seat or cockpit — If you have decided you want a powerful DD wheel, your desk will not cut it. An Aluminum extrusion rig or a Wooden DIY one will provide you with the stiffness required to operate a DD and set of Load cell pedals. A dedicated Rig also greatly contributes immersion and can be a form of personal expression.
